Ayah in Islam

The word aya and its plural ayat occur hundreds of times in the Quran: the signs of creation that invite reflection, the miracles of the prophets and the verses of the Book. Among His signs, the Quran says, Allah placed love and mercy between spouses (30:21).

Meaning of the name Ayah

Aya means “sign”, that which makes something else known: a wonder, a marvel of creation, a proof. The word also refers to each verse of the Quran, since each is a sign from Allah. The name Aya is very common in Morocco and France; it should not be confused with the Japanese Aya (“colour, weave”).
