Tafsir of verse 35
Al-Mukhtasar
When those ships are destroyed by sending gale-force winds, those who dispute in respect of Allah’s signs, in order to refute them, will know that they have no escape from destruction. Then they will only call on Allah and leave those besides Him.
then those who dispute concerning Our signs will know that they have no escape.
And those who dispute (polytheists with Our Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) as regards Our Ayât (proofs, signs, verses, etc. of Islâmic Monotheism) may know that there is no place of refuge for them (from Allâh’s punishment)8 [Tafsir At-Tabari].
Notes
[8] (V.42:35) See the footnote of (V.3:85).
And that those who argue concerning Our revelations may know they have no refuge.
But let those know, who dispute about Our Signs, that there is for them no way of escape.
And (that) those who dispute about Our communications may know; there is no place of refuge for them.
And that the ones who dispute concerning Our signs would know that in no way can they have any evasion.
