Tafsir of verse 35

Al-Mukhtasar

That punishment you are being punished with is because you took the words of Allah as a joke which you would mock, and life with its pleasures and desires deceived you”. So today these disbelievers who used to mock Allah’s words will not be taken out of the fire, but rather they will remain in it forever, and neither will they be returned to the worldly life to do good deeds nor will their Lord be pleased with them.

Tafsir of the whole Surah Al-Jathiyah

Other translations of verse 35

That is because you took Allah’s verses in ridicule, and were deluded by the life of this world.” So Today they will not be taken out of it, nor will they be asked to make amends.

This, because you took the revelations of Allâh (this Qur’ân) in mockery, and the life of the world deceived you. So this Day, they shall not be taken out from there (Hell),5 nor shall they be returned to the worldly life, (so that they repent to Allâh, and beg His Pardon for their sins).

Notes

[5] (V.45:35)
a) Narrated Anas bin Mâlik رضي الله عنه: Allâh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "When carried to his grave, a dead person is followed by three, two of which return (after his burial) and one remains with him: his relatives, his property and his deeds follow him; relatives and his property return back while his deeds remain with him." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.8, Hadith No.521
b) Narrated Anas رضي الله عنهما: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "The people will be thrown into Hell (Fire) and it will keep on saying, ‘Is there any more," till the Lord of the ‘Âlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists) puts His Foot over it, whereupon its different sides will come close to each other, and it will say, ‘Qat ! Qat ! (enough! enough!) By Your ‘Izzat (Honour and Power) and Your Karam (Generosity)!’ Paradise will remain spacious enough to accommodate more people until Allâh will create some more people and let them dwell in the superfluous (empty) space of Paradise." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.9, Hadith No.481).
c) Narrated Ibn ‘Abbâs رضي الله عنه: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم used to say, "I seek refuge (with You) By Your ‘Izzat (Honour and Power) Lâ ilâha illâ Anta (none has the right to be worshipped but You); Who does not die, while the jinn and the human beings die." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.9, Hadith No.480).

This, forasmuch as ye made the revelations of Allah a jest, and the life of the world beguiled you. Therefor this day they come not forth from thence, nor can they make amends.

"This, because ye used to take the Signs of Allah in jest, and the life of the world deceived you:" (From) that Day, therefore, they shall not be taken out thence, nor shall they be received into Grace.

That is because you took the communications of Allah for a jest and the life of this world deceived you. So on that day they shall not be brought forth from it, nor shall they be granted goodwill.

That (Literally: Those (conseguences) is for that you took to yourselves the signs of Allah in mockery, and the present life (Literally: the lowly life, i.e., the life of this world) deluded you." So today they will not be brought out of it, nor will they be allowed to make amends.
