Tafsir of verse 5
Al-Mukhtasar
And in the alteration of the night and day, and the rainwater Allah sent down from the sky, then He gave life to the earth through it by making plants grow in it after it was dead without any plants, and in the alteration of the winds by bringing them from one direction at times and other directions at other times for your benefit, are proof for people who understand. So they use them as proof of Allah’s oneness, His power to resurrect and His power over everything.
And in the alternation of the night and day, the provision that Allah sends down from the sky2, reviving thereby the earth after its death, and directing of the winds, there are signs for people of understanding.
Notes
[2] i.e., the rain.
And in the alternation of night and day, and the provision (rain) that Allâh sends down from the sky, and revives therewith the earth after its death, and in the turning about of the winds (i.e. sometimes towards the east or north, and sometimes towards the south or west sometimes bringing glad tidings of rain etc., and sometimes bringing the torment), are signs for a people who understand.
And the difference of night and day and the provision that Allah sendeth down from the sky and thereby quickeneth the earth after her death, and the ordering of the winds, are portents for a people who have sense.
And in the alternation of Night and Day, and the fact that Allah sends down Sustenance from the sky, and revives therewith the earth after its death, and in the change of the winds,- are Signs for those that are wise.
And (in) the variation of the night and the day, and (in) what Allah sends down of sustenance from the cloud, then gives life thereby to the earth after its death, and (in) the changing of the winds, there are signs for a people who understand.
And (in) the differences (Or: alternation) between the night and the daytime, and whatever provision Allah sends down from the heaven, so He gives life therewith to the earth after its death, and the (constant) turning about of the winds, there are signs for a people who consider.
Verse 5 word by word
وَٱخْتِلَٰفِwa-ikh'tilāfiAnd (in the) alternationخ ل ف
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the [great] ships which sail through the sea with that which benefits people, and what Allāh has sent down from the heavens of rain, giving life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and dispersing therein every [kind of] moving creature, and [His] directing of the winds and the clouds controlled between the heaven and earth are signs for a people who use reason.
And Allāh has sent down rain from the sky and given life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who listen.
And it is Allāh who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds, and We drive them to a dead land and give life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness. Thus is the resurrection.
And of His signs is [that] He shows you the lightning [causing] fear and aspiration, and He sends down rain from the sky by which He brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that are signs for a people who use reason.
