Jannah in Islam

The word, in the singular, dual and plural (jannat), occurs more than a hundred and forty times in the Quran: “Hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a Paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for the God-fearing” (3:133). Allah says, according to the Prophet ﷺ: “I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen and no ear has heard” (al-Bukhari 3244).

Meaning of the name Jannah

Janna first means a garden thick with trees whose foliage hides the ground: the root j-n-n expresses what covers and conceals (as in jinn, “hidden beings”). In the Quran, al-Janna is Paradise. The name is given to girls; Jenna, a popular name in France and English-speaking countries, is of English origin, though many Muslim families hear it as janna.
