Explanation of the name Al-Khaliq

The One Who created all that is in existence, Who made everything correct and in its place in accordance to His Wisdom, Who Shaped it in accordance to His praise and Wisdom. He is continuously doing so.

"He is Allaah, the Creator, the Originator, the Bestower of forms. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorify Him. He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise." (59:24)

The Exalted said: “He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor of all things.” (Al-Hashr: 24)

He, the Praiseworthy, said: “Verily, your Lord is the All-Knowing Creator.” (Al-Hijr: 86).

The Linguistic Meaning:

Al-Kahlq=The creation. It has two meanings:

1- Creativity: To find something that was not created before.

2- The righteous and correct assessment.

These two Glorious Names cannot be called on anyone but on God, the Exalted, for these Names are purely exclusive to Him.

God, the Praiseworthy, is Al-Kahleq and Al-Khallaq: He brought into being things that didn’t exist before, and He estimated their nature in the future, although they were vacuum (nothing), and He mastered their creation without any previous example or model.

The difference between Al-Khaleq and Al-Khallaq: Al-Khaleq: The Creator Who makes something out of nothing, having a previous knowledge and estimation of the existence outside.

Al-Khallaq: Is the extreme of the Creator, meaning the abundance of the frequent creation of God, the Praiseworthy, frequent in terms of volume and nature. You can only imagine how much God, the Exalted, creates in terms of billions of creatures in one moment of time, with many forms and types. The creation is derived from Him, All-Mighty: He creates with His Hands, He creates with Them if He wills, He creates out of His Intention and His Words, and He creates whenever He wants. He created all creatures, being different in their personalities and different in their statuses, and He knows about their differences. Out of wisdom and benefit, He, the Exalted, created us knowing the best for us, for the source of His creation, is the perfect knowledge and wisdom, and this means that we have to be completely satisfied with the way God had created us: whether created us tall or short, black or white, weak or strong, healthy or ill, able or retarded, as all is out of His Proper Assessment which suits all worlds. He, the Exalted said: “He has created everything and has measured it exactly according to its due measurements. ” (Al-Furqan: 2).

The name in the Quran

هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْخَٰلِقُ ٱلْبَارِئُ ٱلْمُصَوِّرُ لَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ۝٢٤

He is Allāh, the Creator, the Producer, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

Explanation: Al-Mukhtasar

He is the Creator who created everything; the Originator of things; the Fashioner of His creations according to His wishes. For Him may He be glorified are the most beautiful names which contain His lofty attributes. Everything in the heavens and on earth glorifies Him from every deficiency. He is the Almighty whom no one can overpower; the Wise in His creation, legislation and decree.

Surah Al-Hashr, Verse 24

ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ خَٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ فَٱعْبُدُوهُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَكِيلٌ ۝١٠٢

That is Allāh, your Lord; there is no deity except Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He is Disposer of all things.

Explanation: Al-Mukhtasar

O people, the Being that has those divine attributes is your Lord. You have no lord besides Him, and there is no one worthy of worship besides Him. He is the Creator of everything, so worship Him alone as He is the only one deserving of worship. He takes care of everything.

Surah Al-An’am, Verse 102

قُلْ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ قُلْ أَفَٱتَّخَذْتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ لِأَنفُسِهِمْ نَفْعًا وَلَا ضَرًّا قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِى ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ وَٱلْبَصِيرُ أَمْ هَلْ تَسْتَوِى ٱلظُّلُمَٰتُ وَٱلنُّورُ أَمْ جَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ شُرَكَآءَ خَلَقُوا۟ كَخَلْقِهِۦ فَتَشَٰبَهَ ٱلْخَلْقُ عَلَيْهِمْ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ خَٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ ٱلْوَٰحِدُ ٱلْقَهَّٰرُ ۝١٦

Say, "Who is Lord of the heavens and earth?" Say, "Allāh." Say, "Have you then taken besides Him allies not possessing [even] for themselves any benefit or any harm?" Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Or is darkness equivalent to light? Or have they attributed to Allāh partners who created like His creation so that the creation [of each] seemed similar to them?" Say, "Allāh is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Prevailing."

Explanation: Al-Mukhtasar

Say, O Messenger, to the disbelievers who worship others together with Allah: Who is the creator and the controller of the heavens and the earth? Say, O Messenger, It is Allah who is their Creator and Controller and you acknowledge this. Say, O Messenger, to them: Have you taken for yourselves protectors other than Allah who are themselves helpless! They cannot draw any benefit for themselves nor remove any harm. How then will they be able to do so for others? Say to them, O Messenger, Is the disbeliever, who has no insight, equal to the believer who can see and who is guided? And is disbelief, which is layers of darkness, equal to faith, which is light? Have they assigned in the creation partners to Allah, may He be glorified, who have created anything like Allah’s creation so that their creation is indistinguishable from His? Say to them, O Messenger, Allah alone is the Creator of all things. He has no partner in creation. He is the One and Only deity, who solely deserves to be worshipped, and He is the All Compelling.

Surah Ar-Ra’d, Verse 16

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ هَلْ مِنْ خَٰلِقٍ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ يَرْزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَ ۝٣

O mankind, remember the favor of Allāh upon you. Is there any creator other than Allāh who provides for you from the heaven and earth? There is no deity except Him, so how are you deluded?

Explanation: Al-Mukhtasar

O people, remember Allah’s favour on you through your hearts and tongues, and through your limbs by action. Do you have any creator besides Allah who provides you from the sky with the water He sends to you and who provides you from the earth with the fruits and crops He grows? There is no true god besides Him. So how after this do you turn away from this truth and fabricate lies against Allah, and claim that Allah has partners when He is the one who created all of you and provides for all of you?
