Al-Mumit: The Bringer of Death
Explanation of the name Al-Mumit
Al-Mumit is the Bringer of Death Who causes the living to die and, through death, weakens the strength of the healthy and the mighty. He has praised Himself for causing death just as He has praised Himself for giving life, so that it may be known that good and evil, benefit and harm come from Him, and that He has no partner in His dominion. He has kept everlastingness for Himself alone and decreed passing away for His creation.

المحيي المميت: المحيي هو الذي يحيي النطفة الميتة فيخرج منها النسمة الحية ويحيي الأجسام البالية بإعادة الأرواح إليها عند البعث ويحيي القلوب بنور المعرفة، ويحيي الأرض بعد موتها بإنزال الغيث، وإنبات الرزق.
[و] المميت: هو الذي يميت الأحياء ويوهن بالموت قوة الأصحاء الأقوياء (يحيي ويميت وهو على كل شيء قدير). تمدح سبحانه بالإماتة كما تمدح بالإحياء ليعلم أن مصدر الخير والشر والنفع والضر من قبله وأنه لا شريك له في الملك استأثر بالبقاء وكتب على خلقه الفناء.
