Explanation of the name Al-Baqi
Al-Baqi is the One Who is untouched by anything that brings about passing away, and Whose everlastingness has no end and no limit. His everlastingness is not like that of Paradise and Hell: His has neither beginning nor end, whereas theirs has no end but did have a beginning, for both were created after they had not existed.

الباقي: هو الذي لا تعترض عليه عوارض الزوال وهو الذي بقاؤه غير متناه، ولا محدود، وليست صفة بقائه ودوامه كبقاء الجنة والنار ودوامهما؛ وذلك أن بقاءه أزلي أبدي وبقاء الجنة والنار أبدي غير أزلي، ومعنى الأزل: ما لم يزل. ومعنى الأبد: ما لا يزال، والجنة والنار مخلوقتان كائنتان بعد أن لم تكونا، فهذا فرق ما بين الأمرين. والله أعلم.
