And mention in the Book, Ishmael. Indeed, he was true to his promise, and he was a messenger and a prophet.
Girl Arabic origin Waʿd
In the Quran“Promise”, a commitment to do good
The word as it is recited in the Quran: Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Maryam 19:54.
The word waʿd occurs forty-nine times in the Quran, mostly for the promise of Allah: “The promise of Allah is true” (31:33); “Allah does not fail His promise” (30:6). The Quran praises Ismaʿil, who “was true to his promise” (19:54), and the Prophet ﷺ counted breaking a promise among the signs of the hypocrite (al-Bukhari 33).
Waʿd is a promise, a commitment made to someone (root w-ʿ-d). Lexicographers such as al-Farraʾ note that, used on its own, waʿd means the promise of something good, while waʿid means a threat. The name expresses hope in what is promised and faithfulness to one’s word. It is mostly feminine, in Syria, Iraq, Jordan and the Gulf, and is written Waad or Waed depending on the country.
Yes: the word Waad appears in the Quran 49 times, in 28 surahs.

[It is] the promise of Allāh. Allāh does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know.
O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all. Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allāh by the Deceiver [i.e., Satan].
And Allāh had certainly fulfilled His promise to you when you were killing them [i.e., the enemy] by His permission until [the time] when you lost courage and fell to disputing about the order [given by the Prophet (ﷺ)] and disobeyed after He had shown you that which you love. Among you are some who desire this world, and among you are some who desire the Hereafter. Then He turned you back from them [defeated] that He might test you. And He has already forgiven you, and Allāh is the possessor of bounty for the believers.
