Yusuf in Islam
A prophet and the son of Yaʿqub, Yusuf is named twenty-seven times in the Quran, and Surah 12, which tells his whole story, bears his name; the Quran calls it “the best of stories” (12:3). The Prophet ﷺ said: “The noble son of the noble son of the noble son of the noble: Yusuf son of Yaʿqub son of Ishaq son of Ibrahim” (al-Bukhari 3382).
Yusuf is the Arabic form of the Hebrew Yosef, which the Bible explains as “may God add (another son to me)”. It is therefore not an Arabic word and has no Arabic root. The name owes its prestige to the prophet Yusuf, son of Yaʿqub, whose beauty, chastity and forgiveness of his brothers became proverbial.

Is Yusuf in the Quran?
Yes: Yusuf is named in the Quran 27 times, in 3 surahs.
[Of these stories mention] when Joseph said to his father, "O my father, indeed I have seen [in a dream] eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrating to me."
They said, "Are you indeed Joseph?" He said, "I am Joseph, and this is my brother. Allāh has certainly favored us. Indeed, he who fears Allāh and is patient, then indeed, Allāh does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good."
And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought to you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allāh send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allāh leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic."
And We gave to him [i.e., Abraham] Isaac and Jacob - all [of them] We guided. And Noah, We guided before; and among his descendants, David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. Thus do We reward the doers of good.
