أَمِين
Boy Arabic origin Amīn
Name of the Prophet ﷺIn the Quran“Trustworthy, faithful”; al-Amin, a title of the Prophet ﷺ
The word as it is recited in the Quran: Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Ash-Shu’ara 26:107.
Even before the revelation, Quraysh called the Prophet ﷺ al-Amin, “the trustworthy one” (Ibn Hisham, al-Sira). The word occurs fourteen times in the Quran: in Surah al-Shuʿara, five prophets tell their people “I am a trustworthy messenger to you” (26:107), and Jibril is “the trustworthy Spirit” (26:193). The Prophet ﷺ said: “Do you not trust me, when I am the trustee of the One in the heaven?” (al-Bukhari 4351).
Amin comes from the root ʾ-m-n of safety (amn), of the trust placed in someone (amana) and of faith (iman): the amin is the one to whom you can entrust property or a secret, sure to find it intact. It should not be confused with amin (āmīn), “amen”, said after a supplication. The name is spelled Amine in the Maghreb and France and Emin in Turkey, often in the compound Muhammed Emin.
Yes: the word Amin appears in the Quran 14 times, in 8 surahs.
