Amina in Islam
Amina bint Wahb was the mother of the Prophet ﷺ; she died at al-Abwaʾ, between Mecca and Medina, when he was about six. The word amina appears once in the Quran, for a town “that was secure and at peace” (16:112).
Meaning of the name Amina
Amina is the feminine active participle of amina, “to be safe, to trust”, from the root ʾ-m-n, which also gives aman (“security”), amana (“trust, loyalty”) and iman (“faith”). The name means “she who is safe, at peace”. It becomes Emna in Tunisia, Aminata in West Africa and Emine in Turkey.
And Allāh presents an example: a city [i.e., Makkah] which was safe and secure, its provision coming to it in abundance from every location, but it denied the favors of Allāh. So Allāh made it taste the envelopment of hunger and fear for what they had been doing.
