Frequently asked questions
Why fast on the 9th as well as the 10th of Muharram?
The Prophet ﷺ said: “If I am still alive next year, I will fast on the ninth” (Muslim 1134). Scholars therefore recommend fasting on the 9th and 10th or, failing that, on the 10th and 11th.
Is Ashura a celebration?
No: it is a day on which fasting is recommended (the 10th of Muharram, with the 9th). Our Ashura cards are fasting reminders, without festive wishes.
How do I create a greeting card?
Pick the occasion and a message (or write your own), type the person’s name and tap “Send the card”: your phone offers WhatsApp, Instagram or your messages. On a computer, download or copy the image.
Are the name and photo sent anywhere?
No. The card is drawn in your browser: the name, the text and your photo never leave your device.
How do I write a name in Arabic on the card?
Tick “Also write the names in Arabic” under “Customise the card”: the usual spelling is suggested for more than 300 names (and an automatic transcription for the others, to be checked). You can always correct it.
