سورة التكوير، الآية ١
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
إِذَا ٱلشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ ١
idhā l-shamsu kuwwirat
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]
Verse 1 of Surah At-Takwir (81:1), a Meccan surah, is in juz 30, on page 586 of the mushaf. Read it in Arabic with its transliteration, translations and tafsir, and listen to it recited by 74 reciters.

When the mass of the sun is gathered and its light vanishes.
When the sun is wrapped up in darkness,
When the sun is wound round and its light is lost and is overthrown.1

When the sun is overthrown,
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up;
When the sun is covered,
When the sun will be rolled, (i.e., folded; compressed).
يَقْرَأُ فِي الْفَجْرِ { إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ } .
" مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ كَأَنَّهُ رَأْىُ عَيْنٍ فَلْيَقْرَأْ ( إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ ) و (إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْفَطَرَتْ ) وَ (إذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ ) "
وَمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا طَٰٓئِرٍ يَطِيرُ بِجَنَاحَيْهِ إِلَّآ أُمَمٌ أَمْثَالُكُم مَّا فَرَّطْنَا فِى ٱلْكِتَٰبِ مِن شَىْءٍ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يُحْشَرُونَ
And there is no creature on [or within] the earth or bird that flies with its wings except [that they are] communities like you. We have not neglected in the Register a thing. Then unto their Lord they will be gathered.
وَٱلطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَةً كُلٌّ لَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ
And the birds were assembled, all with him repeating [praises].
وَٱلْبَحْرِ ٱلْمَسْجُورِ
And [by] the sea set on fire,
ٱحْشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ
[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَٰثَةً …
And you become [of] three kinds: …
يَوْمَ تَجِدُ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا عَمِلَتْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ مُّحْضَرًا وَمَا عَمِلَتْ مِن سُوٓءٍ تَوَدُّ لَوْ أَنَّ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَهُۥٓ أَمَدًۢا بَعِيدًا وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسَهُۥ وَٱللَّهُ رَءُوفٌۢ بِٱلْعِبَادِ
The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allāh warns you of Himself, and Allāh is Kind to [His] servants."
