سورة الشمس، الآية ١١
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ ١١
kadhabat thamūdu biṭaghwāhā
Thamūd denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression,

After Allah mentions the loss of the one who thrust his soul secretly into sins, He mentions the Thamūd as an example of that, saying: The Thamūd rejected their Prophet Saleh due to their transgressing the limits in committing sins and disobedience.
Thamūd rejected [the messenger] because of their transgression,
Thamûd (people) denied (their Prophet) through their transgression (by rejecting the true Faith of Islâmic Monotheism, and by following polytheism, and by committing every kind of sin).
(The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride,
The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing,
Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy,
Thamud cried lies in their in ordinance,
فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her].
