Tafsir of verse 28
Al-Mukhtasar
The followers will say to the leaders, “O our seniors! You use to approach us in matters of religion and truth, and would beautify for us disbelief, ascribing partners with Allah and sins, while scaring us away from the truth that the messengers brought from Allah.”
[The followers] will say, “It was you who used to delude us from the right way6.”
Notes
[6] Or you used to pressure us, or deceived us with false oaths, or claimed to have the truth.
They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, enjoin on us polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and from every good deed]."
They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth).
They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!"
They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side.
They (The seduced) say, "Surely you used to come up to us from the right hand." (i.e. with the Truth).
