سورة القيامة، الآية ٢٦
كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ ٢٦
kallā idhā balaghati l-tarāqiya
No! When it [i.e., the soul] has reached the collar bones1806
[1806] At the time it is about to leave the body when one is on the verge of death.

The matter is not as the idolaters imagined - that they will not be punished when they die. When the soul of any one of them reaches the upper part of his chest.
Indeed, when the soul reaches the throat8,
[8] Upon death.
Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone (i.e. up to the throat in its exit),
Nay, but when the life cometh up to the throat
Yea, when (the soul) reaches to the collar-bone (in its exit),
Nay! When it comes up to the throat,
Not at all! When it reaches the clavicles,
يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ وُجُوهٌ وَتَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهٌ فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْوَدَّتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ أَكَفَرْتُم بَعْدَ إِيمَٰنِكُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ
On the Day [some] faces will turn white and [some] faces will turn black. As for those whose faces turn black, [to them it will be said], "Did you disbelieve [i.e., reject faith] after your belief? Then taste the punishment for what you used to reject."
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ …
[Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - …
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ …
[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, …
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ …
Then why, when it [i.e., the soul at death] reaches the throat …
وَهُوَ ٱلْقَاهِرُ فَوْقَ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيُرْسِلُ عَلَيْكُمْ حَفَظَةً حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ تَوَفَّتْهُ رُسُلُنَا وَهُمْ لَا يُفَرِّطُونَ …
And He is the subjugator over His servants, and He sends over you guardian-angels until, when death comes to one of you, Our messengers [i.e., angels of death] take him, and they do not fail [in their duties]. …
ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ
[It will be said], "Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble!
