Spain: Islamic banks and finance
Checked on October 12, 2026
In 2026 Spain has neither a legal framework specific to Islamic finance nor an Islamic bank licensed by the Bank of Spain. No Spanish bank offers a Sharia-compliant account or home finance to the general public. The only provider identified is CoopHalal, a Barcelona cooperative founded in 2015 that pools its members’ savings and provides interest-free funding for homes, taxi licences and small businesses, with a takaful fund covering funeral and repatriation costs. Islamic ETFs listed in Europe remain available through mainstream brokers.

An Islamic financial services cooperative rather than a bank, CoopHalal held its general assembly for the first half of 2026 and funds its members from their pooled savings.
Before you commit
- Ask for the names of the Shariah board members and their published rulings on the product.
- Check that the provider is authorised by the country’s regulator.
- Compare the total cost, not just the monthly payment: the calculators in this section can help.
- Read the contract: who owns the property, who bears the risk, late-payment charges and where they go.
