أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، عَنِ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، وَاللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَالِكِ بْنِ حُذَافَةَ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنِ الْعَالِيَةِ بِنْتِ سُبَيْعٍ، أَنَّ مَيْمُونَةَ، زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم حَدَّثَتْهَا أَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم رِجَالٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ يَجُرُّونَ شَاةً لَهُمْ مِثْلَ الْحِصَانِ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏

"‏ لَوْ أَخَذْتُمْ إِهَابَهَا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالُوا إِنَّهَا مَيْتَةٌ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ يُطَهِّرُهَا الْمَاءُ وَالْقَرَظُ ‏"

It was narrated from Maimunah, the wife of the Prophet, that:

some men of Quraish passed by the Messenger of Allah dragging a sheep the size of a donkey. He said to them: "Why don't you take its skin?" They said: "It is dead meat." The Messenger of Allah said: "Purify it with water and Qaraz."

Reported by An-Nasa’i (No. 4248), Abu Dawud (No. 4126) and Ahmad (No. 25603).

قَوْله ( مِثْل الْحِصَان ) بِكَسْرِ الْحَاء الْفَرَس الْكَرِيم الذَّكَر ( لَوْ أَخَذْتُمْ إِهَابهَا ) قِيلَ كَلِمَة لَوْ لِلتَّمَنِّي بِمَعْنَى لَيْتَ وَقِيلَ كَلِمَة شَرْط حَذَفَ جَوَابهَا أَيْ لَكَانَ حَسَنًا ( يُطَهِّرهَا الْمَاء وَالْقَرَظ ) بِفَتْحَتَيْنِ وَرَقٌ يُدْبَغ بِهِ ظَاهِره وُجُوب اِسْتِعْمَال الْمَاء فِي أَثْنَاء الدِّبَاغ قِيلَ وَهُوَ أَحَد قَوْلَيْ الشَّافِعِيّ وَاَللَّه تَعَالَى أَعْلَم.…

Some people of the Quraysh passed by the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) dragging one of their sheep like a donkey (in its size or for its disposal). The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Would that you took its skin." They said: "It died a natural death." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Water and Qarazh (leaves of the mimosa) purify it."

Narrated (rad): Some people dragging a (dead) goat passed by the Prophet (ﷺ). He told them, “Had you better taken its skin”. They said, “It is dead”. He said, “Water and the leaves of the Acacia tree will purify it”. [Reported by Abu Da’ud and An’Nasa’i].
