166 Authentic (sahih)

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْــــــأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا.

Allāhumma innī asʾaluka khayrahā wa aʿūdhu bika min sharrihāAllahumma inni as’aluka khayraha wa a‘udhu bika min sharriha

O Allah, I ask You for it’s goodness and I take refuge with You from it’s evil.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا، وَخَيْرَ مَا فِيهَا، وَخَيْرَ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ.

Allāhumma innī asʾaluka khayrahā wa khayra mā fīhā, wa khayra mā ursilat bih. wa aʿūdhu bika min sharrihā, wa sharri mā fīhā, wa sharri mā ursilat bihAllahumma inni as’aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha, wa khayra ma ursilat bih. wa a‘udhu bika min sharriha, wa sharri ma fiha, wa sharri ma ursilat bih

O Allah, I ask You for it’s goodness, the good within it, and the good it was sent with, and I take refuge with You from it’s evil, the evil within it, and from the evil it was sent with.

Upon hearing thunder

دعاء الرعد

168 Authentic (sahih)

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي يُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَالْمَلاَئِكةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِهِ.

āna l-ladhī yusabbiḥl-malā-ʾikatu min khīfatihana l-ladhi yusabbihl-mala-’ikatu min khifatih

How perfect He is, (The One) Whom the thunder declares His perfection with His praise, as do the angles out of fear of Him.

Reference and virtue
  • Whenever Abdullah bin Zubair (RA) would hear thunder, he would abandon all conversation and say this supplication. See Al-Muwatta' 2/992. It was graded authentic by Al-Albani as a statement of Abdullah bin Zubayr only.

For rain

اللَّهُمَّ اسْقِنَا غَيْثاً مُغِيثاً مَرِيئاً مَرِيعاً، نَافِعاً غَيْرَ ضَارٍّ، عَاجِلاً غَيْرَ آجِلٍ.

Allāhumma sqinā ghaythan mughīthā, marīʾan marīʿā, nāfiʿan ghayra ḍārr, ʿājilan ghayra ājilAllahumma sqina ghaythan mughitha, mari’an mari‘a, nafi‘an ghayra darr, ‘ajilan ghayra ajil

O Allah, send upon us helpful, wholesome and healthy rain, beneficial not harmful rain, now, not later.

O Allah, relieve us, O Allah, relieve us, O Allah, relieve us.

اللَّهُمَّ اسْقِ عِبَادَكَ، وَبَهَائِمَكَ، وَانْشُرْ رَحْمَتَكَ، وَأَحْيِي بَلَدَكَ الْمَيِّتَ.

Allāhumma sqi ʿibādaka wa bahāʾimak. wa nshur raḥmatak, wa aḥyī baladaka l-mayyitAllahumma sqi ‘ibadaka wa baha’imak. wa nshur rahmatak, wa ahyi baladaka l-mayyit

O Allah, provide water for Your servants and Your cattle, spread out Your mercy and resurrect Your dead land.

When it rains

اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّباً نَافِعاً.

Allāhumma ṣayyiban nāfiʿāAllahumma sayyiban nafi‘a

O Allah, may it be a beneficial rain cloud.

After rainfall

مُطِرْنَا بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَرَحْمَتِهِ.

Muṭirnā bi-faḍli l-lāhi wa raḥmatihMutirna bi-fadli l-lahi wa rahmatih

We have been given rain by the grace and mercy of Allah.

Asking for clear skies

اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلاَ عَلَيْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ عَلَى الآكَامِ وَالظِّرَابِ، وَبُطُونِ الْأَوْدِيَةِ، وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ.

Allāhumma ḥawālaynā wa lā ʿalaynā. Allāhumma ʿalā l-ākāmi wa ẓ-ẓirābi wa buṭūni l-awdiyati wa manābiti sh-shajarAllahumma hawalayna wa la ‘alayna. Allahumma ‘ala l-akami wa z-zirabi wa butuni l-awdiyati wa manabiti sh-shajar

O Allah, let the rain fall around us and not upon us, O Allah, (let it fall) on the pastures, hills, valleys and the roots of trees.

Upon hearing a rooster crow or the braying of a donkey

الدُّعاءُ عِنْدَ سَمَاعِ صِياحِ الدِّيكِ ونَهِيقِ الْحِمَارِ

إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ صِيَاحَ الدِّيَكَةِ فَاسْأَلُوا اللَّهَ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ؛ فَإِنَّهَا رَأَتْ مَلَكاً وَإِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ نَهِيقَ الْحِمَارِ فَتَعَوَّذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيطَانِ؛ فَإِنَّهُ رَأَى شَيْطَاناً.

If you hear the crow of a rooster, ask Allah for his bounty for it has seen an angel and if you hear the braying of an ass, seek refuge in Allah for it has seen a devil.

Upon hearing the barking of dogs at night

دعاء نباح الكلاب بالليل

229 Authentic (sahih)

إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ نُبَاحَ الْكِلاَبِ وَنَهِيقَ الْحَمِيرِ بِاللَّيْلِ فَتَعَوَّذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْهُنَّ؛ فَإِنَّهُنَّ يَرَيْنَ مَا لاَ تَرَوْنَ.

Aʿūdhu bi-l-lāhi min ash-shayṭāni r-rajīmA‘udhu bi-l-lahi min ash-shaytani r-rajim

If you hear the barking of dogs or the braying of asses at night, seek refuge in Allah for they see what you do not.
