Lot’s people tried to tempt him to give them access to the angels who were his guests with the intention of doing an indecent act. I obliterated their eyes so they did not see them and I said to them: Taste my punishment and the result of My warning to you.

Other translations of verse 37

They even demanded that he let them have their way with his angel-guests14, so We blinded their eyes, [saying], “Taste My punishment and My warnings!”

Notes

[14] Whom Allah sent in the form of handsome young men.

And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, (saying) "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings."

They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings!

And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning."

And certainly they endeavored to turn him from his guests, but We blinded their eyes; so taste My chastisement and My warning.

And indeed they already solicited of him his guests, so We obliterated their eyes, (saying), "So taste My torment and My warnings!"
