The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?
يَامِن
Boy Arabic origin Yāmin
“Blessed, of good omen”, bringing luck
The name is not in the Quran, but its root is, for the blessed: “the people of the right (ashab al-yamin), who are they?” (56:27), and the one who receives his book in his right hand will say: “Here, read my book” (69:19). Musa was called from the right side (al-ayman) of the mount (19:52).
Yamin is the active participle of yamana, “to bring luck, to be of good omen” (root y-m-n, that of the right hand, yamin, and of blessing, yumn): for the Arabs the right was the side of good omen. The name thus means “blessed, bringer of luck”. It is given in Syria, Jordan and Palestine; it should not be confused with Yasin or Amin.
The name Yamen does not appear as such in the Quran, but its root (ي م ن) occurs 71 times. Examples:
