Yaman in Islam
When the people of Yemen came, the Prophet ๏ทบ said: โThey have the most delicate and the softest hearts; faith is Yemeni (al-imanu yaman), and wisdom is Yemeniโ (al-Bukhari 4388). A note in the Sahih explains that Yemen was so named because it lies to the right of the Kaสฟba (al-Bukhari 3499).
Meaning of the name Yaman
Yaman (yamฤn) is an old form of yamani, โYemeniโ: grammarians explain that its alif replaces the final -i of the adjective. The name of Yemen comes from the root y-m-n, which brings together the right side (yamin) and blessing (yumn); it has been explained by the countryโs position to the right of the Kaสฟba or by its prosperity. Given to boys and girls, especially in Syria and Jordan, the name is distinct from Ayman. In Turkish, Yaman is another name, of Turkic origin: โvaliant, skilful, formidableโ.
