Qamar in Islam
The word occurs twenty-seven times in the Quran and gives its name to Surah 54: “The Hour has drawn near and the moon has split” (54:1). Allah “made the moon a light and determined its phases” (10:5). The Prophet ﷺ said: “You will see your Lord as you see this moon, without crowding to see it” (al-Bukhari 554).
Meaning of the name Qamar
Qamar is the moon, from the root q-m-r of dazzling whiteness: Arabs compared a beautiful face to the full moon. The name is mostly feminine in the Arab world and masculine in South Asia (Qamar al-Din, “moon of the religion”); in Turkey, Kamer is unisex. Not to be confused with Badr, the full moon.

وَٱلْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلْعُرْجُونِ ٱلْقَدِيمِ ٣٩
And the moon - We have determined for it phases, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk.
وَجَعَلَ ٱلْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ ٱلشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا ١٦
And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp?
