And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allāh
Girl Arabic origin Ḥanīn
“Nostalgia, tender longing” for what one loves
The Prophet ﷺ used to preach by a palm trunk; when a pulpit was made for him, “the trunk moaned (fa-hanna), so he went to it and passed his hand over it” (al-Bukhari 3583). The Quran uses a word of the same root for Yahya, granted “tenderness (hanan) from Us” (19:13).
Hanin is the verbal noun of hanna, “to feel nostalgia, to yearn” (root h-n-n, that of hanan, “tenderness”): the tender longing for what one loves and is far from, and also the plaintive cry of a she-camel calling her young. The name evokes attachment and affection. It should not be confused with Hunayn, the valley where the battle mentioned in the Quran (9:25) took place in the year 8 of the Hijra.
The name Haneen does not appear as such in the Quran, but its root (ح ن ن) occurs once. Examples:
And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allāh
