أَوَّاب
Boy Arabic origin Awwāb
In the Quran“One who constantly turns back to Allah”
The word as it is recited in the Quran: Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Sad 38:30.
The Quran uses this word for three prophets: Dawud (38:17), Sulayman and Ayyub, of whom it says: “What an excellent servant! He constantly turned back to Allah (awwab)” (38:30, 38:44). The word occurs six times. The Prophet ﷺ said: “The prayer of the awwabin is when the young camels feel the heat of the sand” (Muslim 748).
Awwab is the intensive form of ʾaba, “to return” (root ʾ-w-b of return, maʾab): one who turns back to Allah again and again, in repentance, supplication and obedience. The voluntary forenoon prayer is called salat al-awwabin, “the prayer of those who turn back”. A masculine name given in the Middle East and South Asia.
Yes: the word Awwab appears in the Quran 6 times, in 3 surahs.
