Dawud in Islam
A prophet and a king, Dawud is named sixteen times in the Quran: he killed Jalut (Goliath, 2:251), received the Zabur, the Psalms (17:55), and the mountains and birds glorified Allah with him (21:79). The Prophet ﷺ said: “The prayer most beloved to Allah is the prayer of Dawud, and the fast most beloved to Allah is the fast of Dawud”: he fasted every other day (al-Bukhari 1131).
Meaning of the name Dawud
Dawud is the Arabic form of the Hebrew Dawid (David), usually explained as “beloved”. Arab lexicographers regard it as a foreign name, unrelated to the Arabic root d-w-d (that of worms, dud). It is also written with two waws, داوود. The name is Daoud in the Maghreb, Daouda in West Africa, Dawood in South Asia and Davut in Turkey.

[We said], "O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allāh." Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allāh will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.
