Hajj is moving back through the Gregorian year: it will fall in spring for several years, then in winter around the mid-2030s. The dates for distant years are calculations: only those of the current year are confirmed by the sighting of the crescent.
The Umrah season
Umrah can be performed all year round, but Umrah visas follow a season: it opens a few days after Hajj and closes before the following Hajj, to make room for the Hajj pilgrims. While it is closed, only residents and holders of certain visas can perform Umrah, with a permit.
- Monday, June 1, 2026Season opens, first visas
- Tuesday, March 9, 2027Last day for issuing visas (1 Shawwal)
- Tuesday, March 23, 2027Last day for entering Saudi Arabia (15 Shawwal)
- Wednesday, April 7, 2027Last day for leaving (end of Shawwal)
These dates follow the rule announced by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for recent seasons; the exact calendar of each season is published by the ministry and may change. Ramadan is the busiest period: an Umrah in Ramadan has a special reward, but prices and crowds are at their highest.

The months of Hajj and the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah
Ihram for Hajj can only be entered during its months: Shawwal, Dhul-Qaʿdah and the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. “Ḥajj is [during] well-known months.” Tamattuʿ begins with an Umrah performed during these months.
For all Muslims, the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are the best days of the year for good deeds: “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days.” Those who are not on Hajj are encouraged to fast on the Day of Arafah: “I hope from Allah that it will expiate the sins of the year before it and of the year after it.” The pilgrim, however, does not fast at Arafat, following the example of the Prophet ﷺ.
