This theme first gathers the verses in which Allah is witness over all things, then those that make the Messenger ﷺ a witness over his community and the community a witness over mankind. It also covers the rules of testimony: not concealing it, testifying only to what one knows, requiring an upright witness, rejecting false testimony, and the witnesses required in cases of slanderous accusation.
Verses gathered from a topical index of the Quran, in Mushaf order; every verse is quoted in full.
Those who commit immorality [i.e., unlawful sexual intercourse] of your women - bring against them four [witnesses] from among you. And if they testify, confine them [i.e., the guilty women] to houses until death takes them or Allāh ordains for them [another] way.
And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient,
Why did they [who slandered] not produce for it four witnesses? And when they do not produce the witnesses, then it is they, in the sight of Allāh, who are the liars.
