Tafsir of verse 119

Al-Mukhtasar

This is so except for those whom Allah showed mercy by giving them guidance. They do not differ with respect to His Oneness, may He be glorified. For this test of disagreement, He created them. Some of them are wretched and others fortunate. The word of your Lord, O Messenger, in which He decreed in pre-eternity to fill Hell with jinn and humans who follow Satan, is final.

except those whom Allah has given mercy61, and for this He created them62, and the word of your Lord will be fulfilled: “I will certainly fill Hell with jinn and humans all together.”

Notes

[61] By guiding them to Islam.
[62] To test people as to who purses the way of guidance and who purses the way of misguidance.

Except him on whom your Lord has bestowed His Mercy (the follower of truth - Islâmic Monotheism) and for that11 did He create them. And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled (i.e. His Saying): "Surely, I shall fill Hell with jinn and men all together."

Notes

[11] (V.11:119) i.e. to show mercy to the good-doers, the blessed ones who are destined to paradise, and not to show mercy to the evil-doers, the wretched ones who are destined to Hell [this is the statement of Ibn Abbâs رضي الله عنهما, as quoted in Tafsir Qurtubi].

Save him on whom thy Lord hath mercy; and for that He did create them. And the Word of thy Lord hath been fulfilled: Verily I shall fill hell with the jinn and mankind together.

Except those on whom thy Lord hath bestowed His Mercy: and for this did He create them: and the Word of thy Lord shall be fulfilled: "I will fill Hell with jinns and men all together."

Except those on whom your Lord has mercy; and for this did He create them; and the word of your Lord is fulfilled: Certainly I will fill hell with the jinn and the men, all together.

Excepting the ones on whom your Lord has mercy, and He created them for that (end), and perfected has been the Word of your Lord. "Indeed I will definitely fill Hell with jinn and mankind all together."
