سورة النازعات، الآية ١١
أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰمًا نَّخِرَةً ١١
a-idhā kunnā ʿiẓāman nakhiratan
Even if we should be decayed bones?"1840
[1840] The disbelievers say this in ridicule of the warning.
Verse 11 of Surah An-Nazi’at (79:11), a Meccan surah, is in juz 30, on page 583 of the mushaf. Read it in Arabic with its transliteration, translations and tafsir, and listen to it recited by 74 reciters.

“When we will become decomposed, empty bones, will we be returned then?!”
after we have turned into decayed bones7?”
[7] They would say this in ridicule of the warning.
"Even after we are crumbled bones?"
Even after we are crumbled bones?
"What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?"
What! when we are rotten bones?
Even when we are decayed bones?"
They share a sequence of words with this verse: useful for telling them apart when memorising.
وَقَالُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰمًا وَرُفَٰتًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقًا جَدِيدًا
And they say, "When we are bones and crumbled particles, will we [truly] be resurrected as a new creation?"
ذَٰلِكَ جَزَآؤُهُم بِأَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَقَالُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰمًا وَرُفَٰتًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقًا جَدِيدًا
That is their recompense because they disbelieved in Our verses and said, "When we are bones and crumbled particles, will we [truly] be resurrected [in] a new creation?"
