The word as it is recited in the Quran: Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, An-Najm 53:14.
The Quran mentions the Sidra twice, in the account of the Prophet’s ﷺ vision: “He saw him in another descent, at the lote tree of the utmost boundary (Sidrat al-Muntaha), near which is the Garden of Abode” (53:13-15). During the ascension, the Prophet ﷺ described its fruits “like the jars of Hajar” and its leaves “like elephants’ ears” (al-Bukhari 3207).
Sidra is the unit noun of sidr, the wild jujube or lote tree, a thorny Arabian tree with edible fruit whose leaves are used to wash the dead. The name refers above all to Sidrat al-Muntaha, “the lote tree of the utmost boundary”, in the seventh heaven. It is common in Pakistan and the Middle East.
