طُوبَى
Girl Arabic origin Ṭūbā
In the Quran“Blessedness, bliss”; “happy is…”
The word as it is recited in the Quran: Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Ar-Ra’d 13:29.
The Quran says: “Those who believe and do good deeds, theirs is blessedness (tuba) and a beautiful return” (13:29). The Prophet ﷺ said: “Islam began as something strange and will return to being strange as it began, so blessed (tuba) are the strangers!” (Muslim 145).
Tuba comes from the root t-y-b of what is good and pure (tayyib): it means happiness, the good life, and the phrase tuba lahu means “happy is he”. According to several commentators, Tuba is also the name of a tree of Paradise. Tuba is one of the most given girls’ names in Turkey; Touba is also the holy city of the Murids in Senegal.
Yes: the word Tuba appears in the Quran once, in one surah.
