The word as it is recited in the Quran: Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Ghafir 40:29.
Rashad in Islam
The word occurs twice in Surah Ghafir, in the contrast between two ways: Pharaoh claims “I guide you only to the path of right conduct” (40:29), and the believer of his household answers: “Follow me, I will guide you to the path of right conduct (sabil al-rashad)” (40:38).
Meaning of the name Rashad
Rashad is a verbal noun of the root r-sh-d of right direction: being on the right path, soundness of judgement and conduct, the opposite of going astray (ghayy). The name is given in the Middle East, Azerbaijan (Rəşad) and Turkey (Reşat, like the Ottoman sultan Mehmed V Reşad).
O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allāh if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct."
