Luqman in Islam
Surah 31 bears his name: “We gave Luqman wisdom” (31:12). It reports his advice to his son, beginning with: “O my son, do not associate anything with Allah; association is a tremendous wrong” (31:13), words the Prophet ﷺ quoted to explain a verse (al-Bukhari 3360). According to most scholars, as Ibn Kathir notes, Luqman was a wise and righteous man, not a prophet.
Luqman is an old Arab name whose original meaning is not established: it has been linked, without certainty, to the root l-q-m (luqma, “mouthful”), and some consider it non-Arabic. Even before Islam, the Arabs knew of a Luqman famed for his wisdom. The name has remained a byword for wisdom: in Turkey, Lokman Hekim is the popular figure of the wise physician.

Is Luqman in the Quran?
Yes: Luqman is named in the Quran 2 times, in one surah.
And We had certainly given Luqmān wisdom [and said], "Be grateful to Allāh." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Luqmān said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allāh. Indeed, association [with Him] is great injustice."
