خُلُود
Girl Arabic origin Khulūd
In the Quran“Eternity”, endless duration
The word as it is recited in the Quran: Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Qaf 50:34.
The word occurs once in the Quran, when the blessed are told: “Enter it in peace: this is the Day of Eternity (yawm al-khulud)” (50:34). Its root recurs very often to say that the believers will abide in Paradise forever, khalidina fiha (98:8).
Khulud is the verbal noun of khalada, “to remain, to last forever”: permanence, eternity (root kh-l-d, that of Khalid and of khuld, “eternal life”). In the Quran the word refers to entering the endless life of Paradise. The name, given to girls throughout the Arab world, is written Kholoud or Khulood depending on local pronunciation; it expresses the wish for a long life and a lasting memory.
