بَيْضَاء
Girl Arabic origin Bayḍāʾ
In the Quran“White, luminous”; figuratively, pure and clear
The word as it is recited in the Quran: Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Al-A’raf 7:108.
The word occurs six times in the Quran, mostly for the hand of Musa, which came out “white, without harm”, one of his signs (20:22, 28:32), and for the drink of Paradise, “white, delicious to drink” (37:46). The Prophet ﷺ said: “I have left you on the white path (al-baydaʾ), whose night is like its day” (Ibn Maja 43).
Baydaʾ is the feminine of abyad, “white”, from the root b-y-d of whiteness: the white one, the luminous, and figuratively what is pure, spotless and clear. Arabs called something evident baydaʾ. Beyza is one of the best-loved girls’ names in Turkey.
