Girl Arabic origin Ālāʾ
In the Quran“The blessings” of Allah
The word as it is recited in the Quran: Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, Ar-Rahman 55:13.
The word occurs thirty-four times in the Quran, thirty-one of them in the refrain of Surah al-Rahman: “Which, then, of your Lord’s blessings (alaʾ) will you deny?” (55:13). Hud also tells his people: “Remember the blessings of Allah, that you may succeed” (7:69).
Alaʾ is the plural of ilan or ila, “blessing, favour”: Allah’s favours towards His creatures. The feminine name is distinct from ʿAlaʾ (علاء), “elevation, greatness”, a mostly masculine name (as in ʿAlaʾ al-Din, Aladdin) also written Alaa in Latin letters.
