The word as it is recited in the Quran: Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, As-Saf 61:6.
Ahmad in Islam
The Quran reports that ʿĪsā (Jesus) announced “a messenger to come after me whose name will be Ahmad” (61:6), the only occurrence of the word in the Quran. The Prophet ﷺ said: “I have five names: I am Muhammad and I am Ahmad…” (al-Bukhari 3532).
Meaning of the name Ahmad
Ahmad is a superlative built on the root of praise (ḥ-m-d): it means “the most praised, the most worthy of praise”, and according to other lexicographers “the one who praises Allah more than anyone”. It is one of the names of the Prophet ﷺ, from the same family as Muhammad and Mahmud.
And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O Children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allāh to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Aḥmad." But when he came to them with clear evidences, they said, "This is obvious magic."
