Allāh, the Eternal Refuge.
عَبْد الصَّمَد
Boy Arabic origin ʿAbd al-Ṣamad
Name of Allah“Servant of the Eternal Refuge”, the One to whom all turn
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most beloved of your names to Allah are ʿAbd Allah and ʿAbd al-Rahman” (Muslim 2132), and scholars add to them all names formed on a name of Allah. The name al-Samad occurs once in the Quran; its page in the 99 Names section gives its meaning and verse.
ʿAbd al-Samad joins ʿabd with al-Samad, from the root s-m-d: the Master to whom one turns in every need, who is self-sufficient. The name occurs only once in the Quran, in Surah al-Ikhlas: “Allah, the Eternal Refuge” (112:2). Very common in Morocco (Abdessamad).
This name is built on a name of Allah found in the Quran; its verses are on the page of that name.
