عَبْد الْبَاسِط
Boy Arabic origin ʿAbd al-Bāsiṭ
Name of Allah“Servant of the One who gives in abundance”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most beloved of your names to Allah are ʿAbd Allah and ʿAbd al-Rahman” (Muslim 2132), and scholars add to them all names formed on a name of Allah. al-Basit is in the list of 99 names reported by al-Tirmidhi; the Quran uses the corresponding verb (2:245).
ʿAbd al-Basit joins ʿabd with al-Basit, from the root b-s-t of extension: the One who generously extends provision and mercy to whom He wills; it goes together with al-Qabid, “the One who withholds”. The name is inseparable from the Egyptian reciter ʿAbd al-Basit ʿAbd al-Samad (1927–1988), one of the most beloved voices of the Quran.
This name is built on a name of Allah found in the Quran; its verses are on the page of that name.
