Chapter: What Has Been Related About Delaying The Last Isha Prayer

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏

"‏ لَوْلاَ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لأَمَرْتُهُمْ أَنْ يُؤَخِّرُوا الْعِشَاءَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ أَوْ نِصْفِهِ ‏"

Abu Hurairah narrated that :

Allah's Messenger said: "If it were not that it would be a hardship on my Ummah, then I would have ordered you to delay Isha until the third of the night, or its half."

Al-Mubarakfuri — Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi

قَوْلُهُ : ( لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ ) مِنْ الْمَشَقَّةِ أَيْ لَوْلَا خَشْيَةُ وُقُوعِ الْمَشَقَّةِ عَلَيْهِمْ ( لَأَمَرَتْهُمْ ) ي وُجُوبًا ( إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ أَوْ نِصْفِهِ ) قِيلَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ أَيْ فِي الصَّيْفِ أَوْ نِصْفِ اللَّيْلِ أَيْ فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَيَحْتَمِلُ التَّنْوِيعَ وَهُوَ الْأَظْهَرُ وَيَحْتَمِلُ الشَّكَّ مِنْ الرَّاوِي. قَوْلُهُ : ( وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ وَجَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَبِي بَرْزَةَ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ وَزَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ ) أَمَّا حَدِيثُ جَابِرٍ فَأَخْرَجَهُ أَحْمَدُ وَمُسْلِمٌ وَالنَّسَائِيُّ بِلَفْظِ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُؤَخِّرُ الْعِشَاءَ ا…

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "If I had not found it hard for my followers or the people, I would have ordered them to clean their teeth with Siwak for every prayer."

لَوْلاَ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي ـ أَوْ عَلَى النَّاسِ ـ لأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ مَعَ كُلِّ صَلاَةٍ ‏"

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z Zinad from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Were it not that I would be overburdening my community I would have ordered them to use a tooth-stick."
