حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ أَقْبَلْتُ رَاكِبًا عَلَى حِمَارٍ أَتَانٍ، وَأَنَا يَوْمَئِذٍ قَدْ نَاهَزْتُ الاِحْتِلاَمَ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم

يُصَلِّي بِمِنًى إِلَى غَيْرِ جِدَارٍ، فَمَرَرْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَىْ بَعْضِ الصَّفِّ وَأَرْسَلْتُ الأَتَانَ تَرْتَعُ، فَدَخَلْتُ فِي الصَّفِّ، فَلَمْ يُنْكَرْ ذَلِكَ عَلَىَّ‏.‏

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

Once I came riding a she-ass and had (just) attained the age of puberty. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was offering the prayer at Mina. There was no wall in front of him and I passed in front of some of the row while they were offering their prayers. There I let the she-ass loose to graze and entered the row, and nobody objected to it.

قَوْله : ( حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل ) هُوَ اِبْن أَبِي أُوَيْس , وَقَدْ ثَبَتَ ذَلِكَ فِي رِوَايَة كَرِيمَة. قَوْله : ( عَلَى حِمَار ) هُوَ اِسْم جِنْس يَشْمَل الذَّكَر وَالْأُنْثَى كَقَوْلِك بَعِير. وَقَدْ شَذَّ حِمَارَة فِي الْأُنْثَى حَكَاهُ فِي الصِّحَاح. وَأَتَان بِفَتْحِ الْهَمْزَة وَشَذَّ كَسْرهَا كَمَا حَكَاهُ الصَّغَانِيّ هِيَ الْأُنْثَى مِنْ الْحَمِير , وَرُبَّمَا قَالُوا لِلْأُنْثَى أَتَانَة حَكَاهُ يُونُس وَأَنْكَرَهُ غَيْره , فَجَاءَ فِي الرِّوَايَة عَلَى اللُّغَة الْفُصْحَى. وَحِمَار أَتَان بِالتَّنْوِينِ فِيهِمَا عَلَى النَّعْت أَوْ الْبَدَل , وَرُوِيَ بِالْإِضَافَةِ. وَذَكَر اِبْن الْأَثِير أَنَّ فَائِدَة التَّنْصِيص عَلَى كَوْنهَا أُنْثَى لِلِاسْتِدْلَالِ بِطَرِيقِ الْأَوْلَى…

I came riding on a she-ass, and I was on the threshold of maturity, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was leading people in prayer at Mina. I passed in front of the row and got down, and sent the she-ass for grazing and joined the row, and nobody made any objection to it.
