حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ شَيْبَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ

يَغْتَسِلُ بِالصَّاعِ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ بِالْمُدِّ ‏.‏

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin:

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to wash himself with a sa' (of water) and perform ablution with a mudd (of water).

Abu Dawud said: This tradition has also been narrated by Aban on the authority of Qatadah. In this version he said: "I herd safiyyah."

Al-Azimabadi — Awn al-Ma'bud

مَا يَكْفِي ( بِالصَّاعِ ) : أَيْ بِمِلْءِ الصَّاع , وَالصَّاع هُوَ مِكْيَال يَسَع أَرْبَعَة أَمْدَاد وَالْمُدّ رِطْل وَثُلُث بِالْعِرَاقِيِّ , وَبِهِ يَقُول أَهْل الْحِجَاز وَالشَّافِعِيّ. وَقَالَ فُقَهَاء الْعِرَاق وَأَبُو حَنِيفَةَ : هُوَ رِطْلَانِ , فَيَكُون الصَّاع خَمْسَة أَرْطَال وَثُلُثًا أَوْ ثَمَانِيَة أَرْطَال. قَالَهُ اِبْن الْأَثِير. وَقَالَ الْكَرْمَانِيُّ فِي شَرْح الْبُخَارِيّ : كَانَ الصَّاع فِي عَهْده صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُدًّا وَثُلُثًا بِمُدِّكُمْ هَذِهِ , أَيْ كَانَ صَاعه صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرْبَعَة أَمْدَاد , وَالْمُدّ رِطْل عِرَاقِيّ وَثُلُث رِطْل , فَزَادَ عُمَر بْن عَبْد الْعَزِيز فِي الْمُدّ بِحَيْثُ صَارَ الصَّاع مُدًّا وَثُلُث مُدّ مِنْ…

Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) took the bath of Janaba (sexual relation or wet dream) he asked for the Hilab or some other scent. He used to take it in his hand, rub it first over the right side of his head and then over the left and then rub the middle of his head with both hands.

دَعَا بِشَىْءٍ نَحْوَ الْحِلاَبِ، فَأَخَذَ بِكَفِّهِ، فَبَدَأَ بِشِقِّ رَأْسِهِ الأَيْمَنِ ثُمَّ الأَيْسَرِ، فَقَالَ بِهِمَا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ‏.‏

Authentic Sahih al-Bukhari 251

`Aisha's brother and I went to `Aisha and he asked her about the bath of the Prophet. She brought a pot containing about a Sa` of water and took a bath and poured it over her head and at that time there was a screen between her and us.

فَدَعَتْ بِإِنَاءٍ نَحْوًا مِنْ صَاعٍ، فَاغْتَسَلَتْ وَأَفَاضَتْ عَلَى رَأْسِهَا، وَبَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهَا حِجَابٌ‏.‏
