حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى، عَنْ نُبَيْهِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ اشْتَكَى عُمَرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَعْمَرٍ عَيْنَيْهِ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى أَبَانَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ - قَالَ سُفْيَانُ وَهُوَ أَمِيرُ الْمَوْسِمِ - مَا يَصْنَعُ بِهِمَا قَالَ

اضْمِدْهُمَا بِالصَّبِرِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ - رضى الله عنه - يُحَدِّثُ ذَلِكَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم

Nubaih bin Wahb said ‘Umar bin ‘Ubaid Allah bin Ma’mar had a complaint in his eyes. He sent (someone) to Aban bin ‘Uthman - the narrator Sufyan said that he was the chief of pilgrims during the season of Hajj – asking him what he should do with them. He said Apply aloes to them, for I heard ‘Uthaman narrating this on the authority of the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ).

Reported by Abu Dawud (No. 1838).

Al-Azimabadi — Awn al-Ma'bud

( أَمِير الْمَوْسِم ) : قَالَ فِي الْمِصْبَاح : السِّمَة هِيَ الْعَلَامَة وَمِنْهُ الْمَوْسِم , لِأَنَّهُ مُعَلَّم يُجْتَمَع إِلَيْهِ اِنْتَهَى. وَالْمَعْنَى أَنَّهُ كَانَ أَمِير الْحُجَّاج فِي مَوْسِم الْحَجّ ( قَالَ : أُضَمِّدُهُمَا بِالصَّبِرِ ) : بِفَتْحٍ ثُمَّ كَسْر دَوَاء مَعْرُوف مُرّ. قَالَ الْخَطَّابِيُّ : الصَّبِر لَيْسَ بِطِيبٍ , وَلِذَلِكَ رَخَّصَ لَهُ أَنْ يَتَعَالَج بِهِ. فَأَمَّا الْكُحْل الَّذِي لَا طِيب فِيهِ فَلَا بَأْس بِهِ. وَقَالَ الشَّافِعِيّ : وَأَنَا لَهُ فِي النِّسَاء أَشَدّ كَرَاهَة مِنِّي لَهُ فِي الرِّجَال وَلَا أَعْلَم عَلَى وَاحِد مِنْهُمَا الْفِدْيَة. وَرَخَّصَ فِي الْكُحْل لِلْمُحْرِمِ سُفْيَان الثَّوْرِيّ وَأَبُو حَنِيفَة وَأَصْحَابه وَأَحْمَد وَإِسْحَاق. وَك…

Nubaih b Wahb reported that the eyes of Umar b. Ubaidnllah b. Ma'mar were swollen, and he decided to use antimony. Aban b. 'Uthman forbade him to do so and commanded him to apply aloes on them, and reported on the authority of 'Uthman b. Affan that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had done that.

وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يُضَمِّدَهَا بِالصَّبِرِ
