حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّهَا ذَكَرَتْ عِدَّةً مِنْ مَسَاكِينَ - قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُ أَوْ عِدَّةً مِنْ صَدَقَةٍ - فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏

أَعْطِي وَلاَ تُحْصِي فَيُحْصِيَ عَلَيْكِ ‏"

Abu Mulaykah reported:

Aisha counted a number of indigents. AbuDawud said: The other version has: She counted a number of sadaqahs. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Give and do not calculate, so calculation will be made against you.

Reported by Abu Dawud (No. 1700).

Al-Azimabadi — Awn al-Ma'bud

( أَنَّهَا ) : أَيْ عَائِشَة ( ذَكَرَتْ ) : لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ( عِدَّة ) : بِكَسْرِ الْعَيْن وَتَشْدِيد الدَّال أَيْ عَدَدًا ( مِنْ مَسَاكِين ) : أَيْ جَاءُوا عِدَّة مِنْ الْمَسَاكِين عَلَى بَابِي فَأَعْطَيْتهمْ وَتَصَدَّقْت عَلَيْهِمْ , أَوْ الْمَعْنَى أَيْ أَنَّهُمْ يَأْتُونَ عَلَى بَابِي فَمَا نَفْعَل بِهِمْ ( وَقَالَ غَيْره ) : يُشْبِه أَنْ يَكُون الْمُرَاد أَيْ قَالَ غَيْر مُسَدَّد ( عِدَّة مِنْ صَدَقَة ) : أَيْ ذَكَرَتْ عَائِشَة عِدَّة مِنْ الصَّدَقَة الَّتِي تَصَدَّقَتْ بِهَا ذَلِكَ الْيَوْم أَوْ الْمَعْنَى أَيْ كَمْ مِقْدَار مِنْ الصَّدَقَة أُعْطِيهَا لِلْمَسَاكِينِ إِنْ جَاءُوا عَلَى بَابِي ( لَا تُحْصِي ) : مِنْ الْإِحْصَاء وَهُوَ الْعَدّ وَالْحِفْظ ( فَي…

Once I said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I have no property except what has been given to me by Az-Zubair (i.e. her husband). May I give in charity?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Give in charity and do not withhold it; otherwise Allah will withhold it back from you . "

I said : Messenger of Allah(SAWS), I have nothing of my own except what al-Zubair (her husband) brings to me in his house: should I spend out of it? He said : Give and do not hoard so your sustenance will be hoarded.
