حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ أَبِي رَمْلَةَ الشَّامِيِّ، قَالَ شَهِدْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَهُوَ يَسْأَلُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ أَشَهِدْتَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عِيدَيْنِ اجْتَمَعَا فِي يَوْمٍ قَالَ نَعَمْ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَكَيْفَ صَنَعَ قَالَ صَلَّى الْعِيدَ ثُمَّ رَخَّصَ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ ‏"‏

مَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فَلْيُصَلِّ ‏"

Narrated Zayd ibn Arqam:

Ilyas ibn AbuRamlah ash-Shami said: I witnessed Mu'awiyah ibn AbuSufyan asking Zayd ibn Arqam: Did you offer along with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) the Friday and 'Id prayers synchronised on the same day? He said: Yes. He asked: How did he do? He replied: He offered the 'Id prayer, then granted concession to offer the Friday prayer, and said: If anyone wants to offer it, he may offer.

Al-Azimabadi — Awn al-Ma'bud

( قَالَ صَلَّى الْعِيد ) : فِي يَوْم الْجُمُعَة ( ثُمَّ رَخَّصَ فِي الْجُمُعَة ) : أَيْ فِي صَلَاتهَا ( فَقَالَ مَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يُصَلِّي ) : أَيْ الْجُمُعَة ( فَلْيُصَلِّ ) : هَذَا بَيَان لِقَوْلِهِ رَخَّصَ وَإِعْلَام بِأَنَّهُ كَانَ التَّرْخِيص بِهَذَا اللَّفْظ وَسَيَأْتِي حَدِيث أَبِي هُرَيْرَة أَنَّهُ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَآله وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ " قَدْ اِجْتَمَعَ فِي يَوْمكُمْ هَذَا عِيدَانِ فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَجْزَأَهُ مِنْ الْجُمُعَة وَإِنَّا مُجَمِّعُونَ " وَأَخْرَجَهُ اِبْن مَاجَهْ وَالْحَاكِم مِنْ حَدِيث أَبِي صَالِح وَفِي إِسْنَاده بَقِيَّة , وَصَحَّحَ الدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ وَغَيْره إِرْسَاله , وَالْحَدِيث دَلِيل عَلَى أَنَّ صَلَاة الْجُمُعَة بَعْد صَلَاة الْعِيد , وَالْحَدِيث دَلِيل عَلَى أ…

Differing grades Sunan Abu Dawud 1073

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Two festivals ('Id and Friday) have synchronised on this day. If anyone does not want to offer the Friday prayer, the 'Id prayer is sufficient for him. But we shall offer the Friday prayer. This tradition has been narrated by 'Umar from Shu'bah.

قَدِ اجْتَمَعَ فِي يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا عِيدَانِ فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَجْزَأَهُ مِنَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَإِنَّا مُجَمِّعُونَ ‏"

“Two ‘Eid came together at the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), so he led the people in prayer, then he said: ‘Whoever wishes to come to Friday (prayer), let him come, and whoever wishes to stay behind, let him stay behind.’”
