Tafsir of verse 34
Al-Mukhtasar
And I tested Solomon and put on his chair part of a child, and that was when he swore by Allah that he will sleep with all of his wives and each one of them will bring forth a horseman to strive in Allah’s way. But he did not say in this oath of his: “if Allah wills”. So he slept with all of them, but none of them gave birth except one who gave birth to part of a child. Then Solomon repented to his Lord.
Indeed, We tested Solomon and cast upon his throne a body, then he turned [to Allah]15.
Notes
[15] The Prophet (ﷺ) said that one night Solomon said that each one of his wives would conceive a boy who would fight for the sake of Allah. He forgot to say ‘Allah willing,’ so only one of them gave birth to a deformed, dead baby. So Solomon sought Allah’s forgiveness. [Al-Bukhāri]
And indeed, We did try Sulaimân (Solomon) and We placed on his throne Jasad (a devil, so he lost his kingdom for a while) and he did return (to Allâh with obedience and in repentance, and to his throne and kingdom by the Grace of Allâh).
And verily We tried Solomon, and set upon his throne a (mere) body. Then did he repent.
And We did try Solomon: We placed on his throne a body (without life); but he did turn (to Us in true devotion):
And certainly We tried Sulaiman, and We put on his throne a (mere) body, so he turned (to Allah).
And indeed We already tempted Sulayman, (Solomon) and We cast upon his chair a corporeal (form); thereafter he turned penitent.
