Tafsir of verse 42
Al-Mukhtasar
O Messenger, do not think that if Allah delays the punishment of the wrongdoers that He neglected their acts of lying, obstructing the path to Allah and other such deeds. Allah is aware of these things and nothing remains hidden from Him. Indeed, Allah delays their punishment until the Day of Judgment, the day that people’s eyes will stare in horror at the terror they will witness.
Never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do29; He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror]30 –
Notes
[29] It serves both as comfort to the oppressed and as a warning to the oppressors.
[30] Because of the horrifying sights they see, they will be unblinkingly staring upwards in horror.
Consider not that Allâh is unaware of that which the Zâlimûn (polytheists, wrong-doers) do, but He gives them respite up to a Day when the eyes will stare in horror.
Deem not that Allah is unaware of what the wicked do. He but giveth them a respite till a day when eyes will stare (in terror),
Think not that Allah doth not heed the deeds of those who do wrong. He but giveth them respite against a Day when the eyes will fixedly stare in horror,-
And do not think Allah to be heedless of what the unjust do; He only respites them to a day on which the eyes shall be fixedly open,
And definitely do not reckon that Allah is heedless of what the unjust (ones) are doing; surely He only defers them to a Day (when) be holdings will glaze over.
