Tafsir of verse 99
Al-Mukhtasar
Together with the destruction and drowning that afflicted them, Allah followed that with a curse and with their being driven away and distanced from His mercy in this world and on the Day of Judgement. What an evil thing happened to them in that they became the subject of two curses and punishment in the world and the Afterlife!
They were pursued by a curse53 in this world as well as on the Day of Resurrection. What a terrible gift to receive!
Notes
[53] After their drowning.
They were pursued by a curse in this (deceiving life of this world) and (so they will be pursued by a curse) on the Day of Resurrection. Evil indeed is the gift gifted [i.e. the curse (in this world) pursued by another curse (in the Hereafter)].
A curse is made to follow them in the world and on the Day of Resurrection. Hapless is the gift (that will be) given (them).
And they are followed by a curse in this (life) and on the Day of Judgment: and woeful is the gift which shall be given (unto them)!
And they are overtaken by curse in this (world), and on the resurrection day, evil the gift which shall be given.
And a curse was made to follow them up in this (life) and upon the Day of the Resurrection; miserable is the contribution to be contributed! (i.e., the curse to be renewed in the Hereafter).
